Balanced Development of Social Civilizations in Relation to the Construction of Socialist Spiritual Civilization

邓小平社会主义精神文明建设理论的核心是精神文明必须与物质文明协调发展,实现社会文明的整体进步。两个文明协调发展是中国社会主义制度所要求的;是建立和完善市场经济体制和对外开放的情势所要求的;是两个文明的辩证关系所决定的。邓小平关于两个文明"两手抓"的理论,体现了他的整体协调的社会发展观,从根本上否定了关于精神文明建设的种种错误论调,从而提高了我们以经济建设为中心狠抓两个文明建设的自觉性。

The core of Deng Xiaopings theory on the construction of socialist spiritual civilization is that there must be a balanced development of spiritual and material civilizations so as to achieve the overall progress in social civilizations. Such a balanced development is a necessity of Chinas socialist system, a necessity of establishing and improving the countrys market system, a necessity of the countrys open door policy, and is determined by the dialectical relationship between the two civilizations in question. Deng Xiao pings concept of the two stresses embodies his view on the balanced social development as a whole, is a refutation to different erroneous arguments on the construction of spiritual civilization, and will contribute to raising peoples consciousness of focusing on economic construction and stressing the construction of the two constructions as well.
