形式主义在西方美学和文学艺术理论中是一股强大而持久的潮流,有着十分深远的历史渊源。英国的李斯托威尔伯爵曾经写到:“只要略微瞥视一下西方美学的历史,就可以知道形式论的重要地位了。
The author investigtes the general survey of modem formalism fine art history after arts historian Hynelic Wellfin in West, centring on the academic viewpoints of Roger Fry, Paul Frankel, William Finder and particularly on that of William Finder. Fry thought much of formal factors and the objectivity of critical standards. Frankel divided style into two types of Existing and Living. Finder held that different generations existed into same time and lived actually in the subjective spheres with distinct natures.
