市场经济在近现代经济发展过程中，不仅需要完备的法律制度，而且还急需要与其发展相适应的伦理支持，在这方面，儒家伦理思想将会发挥其积极作用。近年来日本和亚洲“四小龙”经济腾飞的事实，无可辩驳的说明了儒学对市场经济发展的促进作用，无情地批判了韦伯关于儒学是现代经济发展阻力的错误论断。
