Devonian reef complexes in Guilin, Guangxi, South China

The Early and early Middle Devonian deposits (below the varcus Zone) in Guilin are ina clastic neritic facies. By the beginning of the varcus Zone, Guilin began to record a histo-ry of the carbonate deposition in which the reefs and algal limestones constitute the impor-tant lithohorizons. It was not until the Late Famennian and earliest Carboniferous that thereefs were intermittently developed along the margin of carbonate platform, and in somecases, in the interior of the platform. As a whole, the marine Devonian form a megacyclemainly composed of clastics in the lower and carbonates in the upper and contain some hi-atus with different scales which correspond to various bioevents and sedimentary events.Some features of the reef complexes in Guilin have been described in ref. [1]. Localitiesmentioned in the present note are illustrated in figure 1.
