凉山彝族自治州位于四川西南部,金沙江以北,大渡河以南的攀西地区,是全国最大的彝族聚居区。面积6万多平方公里,共辖17个县、市,人口370万,其中彝族150万人。其它还有汉、藏、蒙、回、苗等10多个民族。自治州首府西昌位于成昆铁路中段,是川滇结合部的重镇,山青水秀、四季如春。这里有闻名世界的中国西昌航天城。
ocated in the Southwestern part of Sichuan Province, north of the Jinsha River and south of the Dadu River, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is the largest area (over 60,000 square kilometers) inhabited by the Yi People, covering 17 counties and a population of 3,700,000. Liangshan is abundant in natural resourses. Mineral, hydraulic reserves, agricultural, biological and tourist resourses are among the most promising for integrated exploitation. Liangshan enjoys political and social stability, economic development and unity among the nationalities. Infrastructural facilities such as energy supply, transportation and communications are adequate for further develop. ment. Total length of its highway network amounts to over 9,000 km, and 5 counties (district) have the conveniences of Chengdu- Kunming Railway. Xichang Airport is among the largest 9 in this country. The urban telephone exchange capacity is 20870, and the prefecture has 1810 Iines for distant call service. There is yet another project of optical fibre communication under construction. Telecommunication service to over 100 countries and regions is available in this prefecture. Installation capacity of power stations is 170,000kw, generating a total of one billion kwh annually. The prefectural government has adopted very preferential policy for investment. And there are many items forcooperation.
