Abstract The Yumen Oilfield, Located on the the of the Shiyou River at the foot of the Qilian Mountains, and first opened up in 1938,has a historyof 55 years . A staling point in the history of oil industry of Chins, the Yumen Oilfield used to be the largest in China before 1959. Its output ofcrude oil constituted half of the national ouput. During the sixties and the seventies of the century,with the great development of the oilindustiy throughout the country,the Yunsen Oilfield sent its workers to more than 50 oilfields all over the country,while the Yumen Oilfield itselfexperienced a period of hard times. Sincc 1986,it has concentnited its finanical and exploratory forces, and started another bettle for oil after the one in Talimu,the Tulufan-Hami Basin Oil Battle . The proved oilresers of this oilfield is about twice the total of the proved reserves of the Yumen in the past half century . The new oilfield promises a bright promies a bright rospect of revival and further development for the Yumen Oilfield.
