摘要
本文评述了现代岩石学的特征，并对岩石学在地球科学及自然科学中的地位和作用、现代岩石学的基础理论、方法论等进行了讨论，对２１世纪岩石学的发展前景作了展望，并指出，在各学科不断的互相渗透、交叉、分化、又综合的过程中，岩石学在地学中的作用会越来越重要。
After the characteristics of modern petrology are reviewed,the problems of theposition and functions of petrology in geoscience and natural science,and the basic theo-ries and methodology of modern petrology are discussed.The prospects for the develop-ment of petrology in the 21st century are considered.It is pointed out that,in the courseof continuous interpenetration, intersection,differentiation and synthesis with other natu-ral sciences,the functions of petrology in geoscience will become increasingly important.
