This paper studies oasis land exploitation and desertification process in the lower reaches of the Shiyang River in Gansu during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.It expounds that the main cause of the desertificaion process was mankind's unreasonable fashions of land exploitation.It is the historical source of today's environmental problems in this region.
