摘要
本文记述了产自新疆三个泉地区早第三纪鹳形目鸟类一新属——始鹳属(Eociconia gen.nov.)这是早第三纪鹳形目在我国的首次记录。化石出自依希白拉组,同时发现的还有不少哺乳动物。
An incomplete left tarsometatarsus representing a new ciconiiform bird,Eociconia sange-
quanensis(gen.et sp.nov.)is described in the present paper.The fossil was collected from Yi-
Xi-Bai-La Formation in Sangequan,Xinjiang during the Summer of 1982.The discovery indi-
cates the first record of Ciconiidae from Middle Eocene.
It is easy to distinguish Eociconia from other genera in the following characters:
1.Trochlea II broad and incline to internal margin;
2.Distal foramen on the above between trochlea III and trochlea IV;
3.Trochlea III is not arched in distal end of tarsometatarsus;
4.The priximal end of trochlea II is in the same plane as distal foramen;
5.Intertrochlea fossa broad.
