The fracture of rock is dependent strongly on its microstructures and the loading situations. The rough and irregular fracture is affected by these and other complicated factors. But if the fracture is examined by means of mathematical method, only a geometry of irregularity appears. B. B. Mandelbrot proposed a new geometry—fractal geometry, and he applied it to various fields to describe irregular phenomena in nature.
