The new family 'Jilinoraphidiidae' described in the present paper is based on the specimen collected by associate Prof. Zhang Chuanbo from the greenish-grey thin-bedded sandstone of the Early Cretaceous Dalazi Formation (K1d) of the Zhixin Basin in Northeast Jilin Province.
The order Raphidioptera includes eight known fossil and recent families: Fatijianopteridae O. Martynova, 1961 (C3), Letopalopteridae O. Martynova, 1961 (P2), Mesoraphidiidae Martynov 1925 (J3), Baisopteridae O. Martynova. 1961 (K1), Sinoraphidiidae Hong, 1982 (K1), Inocelliidae Navas, 1916 (E-R), Raphi-diidae Latreille, 1810 (R). The described fossil family is closely allied to such fossil families as Mesoraphidiidae and Baisopteridae, but differs from them by some the following featuras:
1. The costal area is wider and somewhat broader than the total width of the subcostal and radial areas.
2. The forewing with three cells (1r, 2r, 3r) among which 2r is the smal lest.
3. R is strongly curved, with 3 branches near its apex.
4. Rs. MA, MP, CuA and their branches are parallel among themselves, but no cross-veins are seen in them.
5. Pt is absent.
The new family Jilinoraphidiidae and Mesoraptidiidae are closely related
large groups which might originate from a common ancester and then developed into two different branches in the Mesozoic.
