The author of this paper is concerned with expounding the basic principles of FM/CW radio altitude measurement and analysing the cause of built-in step errors resulting therefrom. Step errors are the key factor affecting the accuracy of radio altitude measurement. However, they can not be removed theoretically. The author suggests that some measures be taken with circuit designs to minimize this kind of error.
