萧红在其一生艰难坎坷的漂泊生涯中,以女性作家与社会弱者的双重身份和独特视角观察社会、体验人生,对中国社会长期存留下来的社会积弊及对底层人民从精神到肉体的摧残、虐杀,作了淋漓尽致的描写,对底层被侮辱与被损害的平民人物以及他们的不幸与苦难表示了深切的同情,同时也表现了他们的爱和抗争,表现了作家心灵历程中对人类精神自由、平等、和谐的向往与追求。萧红创作中的生命体验、情感激流和历史感悟,代表了抗日战争最艰难时期中国文化人不可规避的对中国社会文化价值观念的深层冲突的思考及文化意识的觉醒。

In her hard and wandering life, Xiao Hong perceived society and experienced life as a female writer and the disadvantaged. She described in detail the accumulated social problems as well as the spiritual and physical exploitation and oppression imposed on the people from lower social ladders. She also expressed her sympathy for the miseries and hardships of the insulted and the injured as well as their love and struggle for freedom, equality and harmony. Her life experience, emotional currents and historical understanding in her works reveal the thinking on the Chinese social and cultural values and the awakening of the cultural consciousness on the part of the Chinese intellectuals during the harshest Anti-Japanese War period.
