Effects of the Patronage on Zhu Shenghao's Translation of Shakespeare's Works

翻译活动的走向、翻译文学的兴衰,译者的地位乃至生命,都受到赞助人的影响。我国著名的莎士比亚戏剧翻译家朱生豪在抗战前后最艰苦的十年中,以非凡的毅力和宏大的气魄翻译出《莎士比亚全集》。传统的观点认为,赞助人对他的翻译活动的制约作用有限。实际上,赞助人对朱生豪译莎活动的影响同样不容低估。

The tendency of translation activities, the rise and fall of literary translation, the status even life of the translator are all subject to the patronage. In China, the renowned translator Zhu Shenghao had finished the translation of ＂The Complete Works Shakespeare＂ in the most difficult ten years just before and after the Anti- Japanese War with extraordinary perseverenece and grand will. The traditional viewpoint believed that the patronage had limited influence on Zhu Shenghao＇s translation activities. In fact, the affect of his sponsors should not be underestimated.
