翻译不仅是传递信息的方式,也是传播文化的途径。在各国积极参与文化交流的时代背景下,典籍作为各民族传统文明和文化的精髓,其翻译无疑是让世界了解其民族文化的重要途径。本文以中国的《红楼梦》的英译为例,借助奈达的文化因素分类法,从生态文化,物质文化,社会文化,宗教文化和语言文化的角度阐述典籍翻译的文化传播意义。

Translation is not only a way to communicate information, but also an approach to transmitting culture. Classics are the soul of traditional civilization and culture of its nation. There is certainly no doubt that translation of classics is an important way to make its national culture understood by the world against the background of cultural globalization. The paper, taking the English translation of Chinese classic A Dream of Red Mansions as an example, elucidates the significance of cultural transmission of the translation of classics from the perspectives of ecological culture, material culture, social culture, religious culture and language culture with reference to Nada＇s classification of cultural factors in translation.
