《孟子》中的称谓语具有丰富的文化内涵和民族特性,由于文化和语言差异,称谓翻译是《孟子》翻译中的难点。大中华文库中的《孟子》英译本是国内《孟子》译本的最新权威,但译本中很多称谓翻译违背了功能对等理论,使译文丧失了原文的人际功能,甚至重构了与原文非等值的人际功能。

Appellatiens in Mencius are marked with rich cultural meaning and deep national characteristics. Because of the differences between Chinese and English culture and language, the translation of appellations in Mencius is of great difficulty. The English version of Mencius in the Library of Chinese Classics is the latest authority in China, however, many of the translated appellations in the Library do not comply with functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida, and their interpersonal function is almost lost in translation and even being reconstructed unequally.
