A Thousand Acres was published in 1991, 55 years later after the publication of Gone With the Wind in 1936. Distance in space and time do not influence both writers' common feelings produced by social development to a certain stage in different times and different regions. Margaret Mitchell and Jane Smiley portray two female characters of a specifically historical period with women's sensitivity and keenness, creating two vivid images of two ecofeminist heroines in their novels, revealing the awakening of women in dilemma and their close relations with the nature in a positive and negative way, which reflects both authors' ecofeminist consciousness.
