英语名词化现象及其汉译途径

The Nominalization of English and Translation Strategies

名词化现象是英语正式语体的最显著特征之一,是英语书面语篇的共同的非标记形式。名词化结构的中心词往往是由动词或形容词派生或转化而来,意义抽象,因而在理解和翻译时不宜把握。本文从英语历史发展、人类认知心理、思维方式及韩礼德"语法隐喻"理论四个方面分析名词化现象的成因,并根据韩礼德"语法隐喻"理论详细阐释名词化的表现形式,最后从形式与内容两个方面探究名词化现象的汉译途径。

Nominalization is one of the main features of written English text as well as the common unmarked form. The kernel words of Nominalization structure are attached to the derivation and transformation of verbs and adjectives sharing the similar meaning. This phenomenon is abstract which leads to the misunderstanding and fuzzy translation. This paper analyzes the origins of Nominalization from the perspective of English development, human cognitive process, thought pattern of the English and Halliday＇ s theory of grammatical metaphor. Finding inspirations from the theory of grammatical metaphor, this paper explores diverse manifestations of Nominalization, presenting translation strategies in two correlated facets finally： form and content.
