Objective To investigate the effects of microinjection of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) into theeae on the nociceptive responses in mononuropathic rats. Methods The latency of hindpaw withdrawal(HWL) from the hot-plate(52℃) and the mechanical test in SD rats were used as an index to measure the pain threshold, the effect of microinjection of VEGF, SU1498 into theeae on HWLs was observed. Results Intrathecal administration of 0.2 and 0.4 nmoL VEGF significantly induced bilateral decrease in HWLs in dosedependent manner. Administration of 0.4 nmoL SU1498 significantly may reverse VEGF-induced decrease in bilateral HWLs. Conclusion The results suggest that VEGF plays a facilitating role on the HWLs to nociceptive stimulation and that the VEGFR2/Flk-1 receptor in spinal cord participate in an interaction in the transmission of nociceptive information of mononeuropathic rats.
