Two Reading Notes About "A Historical Grammar of Modern Chinese"

《中国语历史文法》是研究汉语历史语法的的重要著作。但其中也有可商榷或补充之处。书中说,近代汉语中没有"ABAB"型后带"儿"的现象,其实,在《金瓶梅词话》中有4例,虽然数量很少,但却有这种语法现象;书中又说,近代汉语中动词重叠带"儿"尾后后面没有带宾语,事实也确实是如此,但现代汉语方言(如山西、陕西)中有这种现象,这可补太田先生此书的观点。

Though ＂A Historical Grammar of Modem Chinese＂ is an important work concerning historical grammar, it＇s still open to discussion or completion. According to the work, there was not such a form like ＂ABAB＂ with ＂er＂. Actually we have found four examples in ＂Jin Ping Mei Cihua＂. In spite of a small number, we cuold not deny the grammatical phenomenon; and it is also pointed out that verbal repetition pattern with ＂er＂ is not followed by an object in Modem Chinese, which is really the fact. But we have found the phenomenon in contemporary Chinese dialects such as Shanxi and Guangxi, which might complete Mr. Taitian＇ s point of view in this book.
