A Probe into the Metaphors in English Poetry

对于诗的语言来说,隐喻极为重要,而隐喻往往是诗歌理解的障碍。诗人运用隐喻并不是转移意思,使诗变得晦涩难懂,而是用隐喻在我们的脑海里产生一个可见的图像,使我们看得更清晰、更明白,从而更好地理解诗的含义。

Metaphor is essential to poetry. To some extent, however, it is also an obstacle to the comprehension of poetry. This paper gives a brief introduction to the definition of metaphor, analyses the relationship between metaphor and poetry, tells us how to understand the metaphor amd how to use it and discusses the relationship between metaphor in English Poetry and cultures. Metaphor is not used to transfer the meaning to make the poem implicit and elusive by the poets but create an visible understandable image to present the meaning clearly.
