The Mayor of Casterbridge, a tragic novel by British writer Thomas Hardy, presents distinctive and diverse carnival factors. Reinterpreting it with Bakhtin＇s carnival theory not only reveals rich connotations in the novel itself, but also provides us with a new perspective to grasp the meaning of our own living experience.
