From 1997 to 1998, archaeologists excavated the Nanjiaokou site in Sanmenxia City, Henan Province. Besides relics of Yangshao Culture and Erlitou Culture, some tombs of Eastern Zhou and Han Dynasty were unearthed. Among the tombs, M17 is relatively large. It has a long sloping passage and several brick-chambers, and it is dated in late Eastern Han Dynasty. There are plenty of funeral objects in the tomb, including pottery, bronzes, jades, stone inkslabs, and so on. It is noteworthy that five pottery tomb bottles were found under the brick paved floor of chambers. According to the rule of "Wu Xing (five elements)", the bottles were buried in five different spots, such as the eastern, western, southern, and north- ern corners, and the central part of the tomb. Minerals of five kinds were filled in the bottles. And on the belly of each bottle, there are characters written with red ink. Such cases were rarely discovered in other Han tombs unearthed before.
