Before the modern era of women’s liberation, which began in the early 20th century, females were held in low regard in many countries. In ancient times, the situation was much worse:Women had no political and economic rights, and no right to an education;women had a lower status within the family unit; male chauvinism was the mainstream. However,in ancient Qi,a kingdom that existed 2,500-plus years ago, during China’s pre-Qin period, women received more respect—in society and within their families.
