在漫长的发展时期里，历史文化保护区的原有空间特色日益衰退。保护区的更新应当从其空间演化的过程中总结特征，挖掘特色资源，为历史风貌的重塑提供依据。本文以常州市前后北岸历史文化保护区为例，通过对其空间肌理演化发展进行翔实和全面的专题研讨，探求如何寻找、挖掘出历史文化保护区的独有持色，从而有针对性地制定发展对策。
