Environmental Sustainable Strategies of Major Sports Events——A Case Study on Green Goal of FIFA 2006 Germany World Cup

In a global scenario of sustainable development to reduce negative environmental impact of human development activities, there is now overwhelming evidence and justification for the need of full-scale environmental sustainable strategies to be examined and implemented in major sports events such as Olympic Games. The paper firstly briefly reviews the historical development of this strategy in major sports events, and then uses the Green Goal in FIFA World Cup 2006 Germany as a case study, to demonstrate and highlight the new trends of strategy development to reduce the negative environmental impacts of major sports events, in an attempt to providing valuable and practical reference to the same kind major sports events.
