论翻译标准“信”与林业文献英译现状

On Translation Criterion "faithfulness" and Present Situation of English Translation of Forestry Literature

翻译是从一种语言到另一种语言的转换,这种转换要以忠实"原作"为前提。因此,翻译中,特别是以客观性和准确性为基本原则的科技翻译中,"信"是第一性的、本质的标准。但总观林业文献翻译现状,违背这一标准的现象却屡见不鲜,这势必会影响我国林业的对外交流。因此,译者既要认识到"忠实"、"准确"是改善林业文献翻译现状的根本,又要有意识地培养严谨的翻译态度、提高自身的双语水平,进行林业文献研究,厚实林业知识底蕴。

Translation is a kind of conversion from one language to another, the premise of which is ＂faithfulness＂ to the original. Therefore, ＂faithfulness＂ is the first, intrinsic criterion in translation, especially in that of science and technology English whose basic principle is objectivity and accuracy. However, the phenomenon of violating this criterion is quite common in the present English translation of forestry literature. This will definitely affect the exchanges of information in forestry with foreign countries. Therefore, translators should not only be aware that ＂faithfulness＂ and ＂accuracy＂ are the root of improving the translation of forestry literature, but also make conscious efforts to cultivate a rigorous translation attitude, upgrade their bilingual level and lay a solid foundation for forestry knowledge by studying forestry literature.
