新生代西部题材电影是指新生代导演以广大的西部地区作为故事发生背景所拍摄的影片。自1995年章明的《巫山云雨》始至今,新生代西部题材电影已经有三四十部有影响的作品问世。新生代西部题材电影的兴起并非是一种偶然的现象。新生代导演的成长经历,新生代导演所面对的社会语境以及中国西部的电影创作传统等因素共同促成了新生代西部题材电影的兴起。

The Chinese western theme movie of the new generation refers to the films which the directors of the new generation produce and use the general western area as the story＇s background. From 1995, with the first apprearance of In Expectation ,which was directed by Zhang Ming ,to 2007,there have been more than 30 of this kind of movies displayed to the audience. The rise of the Chinese Western theme movie of the new generation is not an accidental phenominon but closely relative to the growth experience of the directors of the new generation, the social context which they have to face and the traditional art creation of the West China. These facors all help to bring about the rise of western theme movies produced by new gereration directors.
