DEVELOPMENTS IN GLOBAL SEISMICITY FOR JULY—SEPTEMBER,1997

１９９７年第三季度，全球地震活动又恢复到中等偏低水平。克马德克群岛地区发生７．０级地震。美洲地震带于７月份发生３次７级左右地震，活动强度与大洋岛弧带相近。太平洋西北边缘带地震活动偏低。亚欧带西段的意大利发生６级强震。澳大利亚西部和非洲的坦噶尼喀湖发生６级左右地震。

The global seismicity in the third quarter of the year 1996 returned to medium level or slightly lower. An earthquake of M 7 0 occurred in the Kermadec Islands region. Three earthquakes of magnitude 7 or so occurred in the American seismic belt in July. The seismicity level of the American seismic belt was the same with that of the Oceanic island arc belt. The seismicity level of the northwest marginal seismic belt of the Pacific Ocean was slightly lower. A strong earthquake of M 6 occurred in Italy on the west segment of Eurasian seismic belt. Earthquakes of magnitude 6 or so occurred in the western Australia and Tanganyika Lake of Africa.
