After the Wenehuan Earthquake on May 12 2008, 205 patients with fracture, 135 males and 70 females, aged (53.6+ 15.2)(15-82), were transported from the earthquake-stricken areas to Leshan City. 97 of them (47%) suffered from complications, including hemorrhagic shock, secondary hemopneumothorax, respiratory and cardiac arrest, slippage of venous indwelling needle, etc. However, no patient died after active management and safe nursing. In order to transport the patients it is necessary to assess whether they are fit for transportation and select the appropriate opportunities before the practice. Explanation should be offered to the patients. The medical workers concerned must master relevant knowledge and skills. The venous pathway should be kept smooth. Urinary catheter should be fixed. First-aid equipments, such as simple artificial respirator, defibrillator, and electrocardiographic monitor were in the ambulance. Extra batteries for monitors are prepared. It is very important to monitor carefully and keep communication going.
