Evolution of the Meaning and Concept of Tongue Color before the Late Qing Dynasty

目的:探讨清末以前诊舌色的含义及其概念的演变。方法:采用文献调研的方法,收集清末以前古医籍中诊舌色的内容。结果:清以前,诊舌色的内容包括舌质颜色和舌苔颜色。清代中晚期提出了舌质和舌苔的概念,从而使诊舌质颜色与舌苔颜色被区分开来。结论:舌质与舌苔的区分,促进了舌诊理论与舌诊技术的发展。

Objective：To investigate the evolution of the meaning and concept of tongue color before the end of the Ching dynasty. Methods ： Using the literatural research methods to collect the tongue color data from the ancient medical monographs before the late. Results：Before Qing dynasty, tongue color diagnosis is to inspect the whole tongue color, not distinguishing the tongue texture color and tongue coating color. As the concept of tongue texture and tongue coating had been indicated in the middle and late Qing Dynasty, tongue color diagnosis began to distinguish the tongue texture color and tongue coating color. Conclusion：The distinction between tongue texture and tongue coating promoted the theory and technique of tongue diagnosis.
