[ Objective ] To explore the effects of cold exposure on vasoconstriction through the measurement of the change in the levels of serum NO and NOS of rats. [ Methods] Wistar rats were divided into 11 groups randomly( 1 control group, 10 groups for cold exposure). They were individually placed into cold chamber of-30 ℃ for 30, 60, and 80 minutes and drew blood when they were taken out. Exposed others to cold condition at the temperature of -30 ℃ for 80min and drew blood after 4h, 8h, 16h, 24h, 72h, and 120h rewarming. The levels of serum NO and NOS of rats were observed during cold exposure and rewarming. [ Results] The level of NO went up as the length of time for cold exposure increased, indicating significant difference from the control group ( P 〈 0.05). After the cold exposure of 80 minutes, the level of NO decreased as the length of rewarming increased, reaching the bottom as the rewarming lasted for 120h which was close to the level of control group. The level of NOS went clown in the 30 minutes cold exposure, showing the significant difference ( P 〈 0.05 ) compared with the control group. Then the level of NOS increased, and decreased in the 4h rewarming, showing significant difference ( P 〈 0.05 ) compared with the control group. After rewarming for 8 hours, the level of NOS significantly increased, showing significant difference ( P 〈 0.01 ) compared with the control group. Then the level of NOS reached its balance in fluctuations and was close to that of the control group after the 120h rewarming. [ Conclusion] Cold exposure will change the vasoconstriction of the rats and the level of NO, NOS.
