In the 1980s and 1990s, as a transitional writer or a culture merchant who embodied the characteristics of literariness as well as commerciality and reflected Chinese contemporary cultural transition of the changing times, Wang Shuo's cultural attitude has always been closely related to the historical context in Chinese contemporary social and cultural transformation. The end of the Cultural Revolution, the re-adjustment of social structure made Wang Shuo and the "Children of Cadres'in his novels be reduced to the "Heroes in the End of the Road" at the fringe of social culture, experiencing double loss of political status and economic interests. The marginalization in cultural situation brought them unprecedented and strong anxiety and crisis on self-identity, these "Heroes in the End of the Road'therefore had to face and react to the plight of marginalization.
