郑和参与领导建成的大报恩寺,为明代金陵之大刹和中古时期世界建筑之奇观。园林植物为大报恩寺重要的组成部分。分散在古籍中的有关记载,表明其种类颇多。具有物种以木本植物为主,类型和种植方式的多样性,对地区气候带适应的乡土性,宗教文化载体的佛教性,长寿性,并有郑和下西洋引进的奇花异木等特色。在大报恩寺重建工程中,重视继承、弘扬这些特色,有助于体现,提升景区的历史、文化品位,科学、旅游价值,生态、社会和经济效益。

The Dabao'en Temple built under the leadership of Zheng He was a big temple in Nanjing in the Ming Dynasty and a wonder of world architecture in the medieval times.The garden plants were an important constitutional part of the place.As demonstrated by the related records in the ancient books,those plants were rich in variety,and mainly of the woody type.They were characterized by their diversity in species and growing methods,their nativeness of adaptation to the regional climate,their Buddha style as a carrier of the religious culture,their longevity and their inclusion of exotic flowers and trees imported as a result of Zheng He's expeditions to the western world.Attaching importance to the inheritance and the development of these characteristics during the reconstruction of the temple will help embody and raise its historical and cultural grade,its scientific and tourist value and its ecological,social and economic effects.
