The block-printing masters of ancient traditional Chinese operas originated from Yuan Dynasty, prevailed in Ming, and had been developing all through Qing Dynasty. After the mid-Ming period, the center of block-printing was transferred to the south. Zhejiang' s block-printing of traditional operas flourished since Yuan Dynasty, while Jiangsu had the tendency to surpass Zhejiang. In particular, Jinling (now Nanjing), Jiangsu, a forest of bookshops formed an extremely splendid view. In Qing Dynasty, the block-printed editions continued to thrive. The traditional opera scores, selections, collections and so forth flourished unprecedentedly both block-printed by the government and in private. This paper attempts to introduce the block-printed editions in the area of Zhejiang and Jiangsu in terms of the masters, distributions, histories, items, etc. of major traditional opera versions.
