De Beers, the world's biggest diamond miner, is planning for a 50 per cent fall in turnover this year, as the diamond market faces one of its bleakest years in a generation. The U.S., which is feeling the brunt of the global recession, normally buys about half of all polished diamonds sold. However, diamond markets in China and India are growing fast and will match U.S. demand by the end of the next decade.
