Of all the many excellent writings of Daudet＇ s, “Lettres de mon moulim” repre-sented his writing style and achievement. Since 1861 to 1864,his trip southern France was very important in his development. In the abandoned mill in Provence Daudet acquired spiritual return and comfort,which provided a new angle to scan the modern industrial civilization. Daudet was a “poetic realist” revealing romantic and sentimental feeling in his short stories from the mill. A special genius of Daudet＇ s was sought in this book.
