The Southern Society was established in the last period of the Qing dynasty and the School of Mandarin Duck and Butterfly rose in the initial period of the Republic of China. Most scholars emphasized their differences without noticing their connnection. In fact, their membership overlapped, their cultural personality and behavior were similar, and their novels were surprisingly related. All these Similarities can be traced back to their common identity as traditional intellectuals and cultural conservatives.
