目前有一种观点认为英语中"red"是贬义词,或者多含贬义。其实在多数情况下,英语中颜色词"red"只是对客观事物的描述,并不包含否定的评价。某些褒贬的内涵和感情色彩是由"red"所构成的词组整体在具体的语境中表达出来的。
