论1902—1911年间晚清小说期刊中的插图——以晚清四大小说杂志为例

On the Illustrations in Late Qing Dynaty Novel Periodicals during 1902—1911——Taking Four Major Novel Periodicals in Late Qing Dynasty as Example

晚清至民国初年,小说创作和小说杂志都呈现出惊人的增长态势,而此时小说杂志的一个重要特点是附有图片。通过对《新小说》、《绣像小说》、《月月小说》和《小说林》这四大小说杂志中的插图作抽样分析,发现它们具有一些共同特点,即外国题材图片多,尤其外国作家艺术家人像多,中国报刊初创期的不规范也带来一些当时特有的现象,图片数量或多或少毫无规律,杂志内容与图片没有关系。

From late Qing dynasty to early Republic of China, novel creation and novel periodicals tended to increase strikingly and were particularly featured with attached illustrations. Based on a sampling analysis of the illustrations in four major late Qing dynasty novel magazines, New Fictions, Illustrated Fictions, Monthly Fictions and Forest of Fiction, this paper claims that they are found to have some common features, such as being aboundant of foreign themes, esp. portraits of foreign writers and artists, irregular occuring of undefinite number of il- lustrations, and magazine content being unrelated with illustrations, which are some unique phenomenon inflicted by non-standard Chinese press industry at its start-up stage.
