In order to obtain high quality laser-induced plasma spectra, the influence of different conditions during soil samples preparation on the radiation generated from the laser-induced plasma was investigated. The results show that the density was increased and the line intensities and signal-to-hackground ratio were enhanced with the pressure rising from 8MPa to 20MPa for sample preparation. After polishing the surface of the sample by 100 # ,360 # and 600 # sandpaper, it was found that the high-quality laser spectra could be obtained with the 600 # sandpaper. Consequently, it has been identified that the condition of sample preparation is one of the most important factors that affect the quality of laser spectra.
