As a representative of "Jazz Age", Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece The Great Gatsby has been considered as the most mature works in his skill of thinking art. The theory of deconstructionism is used to analyse this novel and it is concluded that Fitzgerald deconstructed his several binary concepts--past/present, innocence/corruption and west/east--in an intentional or unintentional way. As a result, flaws that the novel theme--criticizing corruption of the modern world and yearning for the old goodness and innocence--was possessed of were founf out. Thus, a new understanding of the novel is ultimately, achieved.
