清儒在小学上取得了辉煌的成果,在文字、音韵、训诂各方面都产生了卓绝千古的学者,其中高邮王念孙父子在训诂学上的成就更是凌跨古人,独步当世。《广雅疏证》作为王氏父子杰出的著述,为训诂学和语义学的研究开辟了宽阔的途径,他们在训诂学上的功绩可谓"千五百年来未有其人也"。

Scholarship in the Qing Dynasty achieved splendid achievements in the traditional language learning in character,phonology and exegetics. Among many outstanding scholars, WANG Nian-sun and his son＇s achievements are prominent. Guang Ya Shu Zheng, their outstanding work, opened up a way for exegetic and semantic study.
