多年来《西游记》的主题思想之所以众说纷纭争论不休,关键就在于大家都是从自己认为正确的角度去展开阐述的,而忽视了这部魔幻现实小说的文化内涵的多义性。《西游记》的文化意蕴是多重的:既有对现实生活底蕴的揭示,也有超现实的传奇化描写所造成的魔幻意趣,无论是人物还是故事给人留下的是永无止境的审美回味,其所蕴含的宗教的、哲学的或其他方面的哲理思考,又都给人以深刻而又隽永的启示。从生活、传奇、审美、哲理四个方面对其进行了阐述。

The cultural implications of A Journey to the West are multi-fold. It reveals the real life, and as- sumes at the same time a magic hue as a result of its supernatural depiction; the stories and characters in it give us infinite aesthetic aftertaste, and its philosophical thoughts, no matter it is religious or philosophi- cal, have given us profound and meaningful enlightenment. This paper reveals the multicultural implica- tions of the novel from its reflection of life, supernatural depictions, aesthetics and philosophy. It holds that the controversy over the theme of the novel lies in our negligence of its multiplicity of cultural implica- tions., each scholar is standing in his own shoes and refuses to accept other ideas.
