Night Entertainments in the Qin and Han Dynasties

秦汉时代遵循"日出而作、日落而息"的日常生活秩序,对夜间活动实行禁止,但是夜间生活,尤其是娱乐生活依然广泛存在,且由于社会经济的发展,更加丰富多彩。秦汉时代的夜间娱乐生活有夜间出游、夜间宴饮、夜间游戏等多种形式。研究这些夜间娱乐活动有助于我们全面了解秦汉时代的社会生活、社会文明发展状况,追溯唐宋元明清夜间游乐活动的源头。

The Qin and Han Dynasties observed the daily life style of ＂work in the daytime and rest at night＂ and forbad the night outer activities. However, there existed still night life, especially the entertainment activities such as night outing, night banquet, and night games, which became more colorful because of the development of society and economy. The investigation of those night entertainments can help us understand the social life and civilization in the Qin and Han Dynasties and trace back to the origin of the night entertainments in the following dynasties.
