Bernard Malamud＇s fiction directly confronts the general human condition by way of scrutinizing the Jewish predicament. While Jewishness entails a certain amount of worldliness, the realization of worldliness in turn enriches and perfects the cultural connotations of Jewish ethnicity. Through reading some of Malamud＇s most typical novels and short stories, this essay attempts to analyze Malamud＇s perspective on inter-ethnic relations as reflected in American religion, history, and postcolonial diversity. It concludes that Malamud＇s fiction demonstrates not only Jewish ethnicity but also the multidimensional significance of human existence.
