On Zhang Xuecheng's Contribution to Local Chronicles

章学诚是我国方志学的奠基者,他毕生致力于方志学理论的研究和方志的编撰。他提出了一整套完整的方志学理论体系,阐述了关于方志学性质与作用、体例和结构、编撰机构、方志特点等方面的理论,在方志学领域上做出了卓越的贡献。

Zhang Xuecheng is a founder of Chinese local chronicles. He devoted all his life to the research of the theory and composition of local chronicles. He advanced a complete series of theoretical system of local chronicles and expounded ideas about the nature and function of local chronicles, its stylistic rules and configuration, writing organization and distinctive features, etc. He made a significant contribution to local chronicles.
