THE IMPACT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICAL EDUCATION ON THE PROFESSIONALIZA TION OF CHINESEMATHEMATICIANS IN LATE QING DYNASTY

数学教育是决定数学研究能否持续性发展的重要因素，对数学的专业化及数学家的职业化都起着举足轻重的作用。该文即从清末数学教育的发展与特点、清末数学教育对数学家经济及社会地位的影响、对数学家专业化思想的影响、以及对中国数学持续性发展的影响等方面探讨清末数学教育对中国数学家职业化的影响。

The development of mathematical education and the professionalization ofmathematicians are two interdependent factors in the modernization of Chinese mathemat-ics. During the period of 1860-1904,in response to the Self-Strengthening Movement,China's mathematical education forged rapidly ahead.This article first analyzes the develop-ment of mathematical education.Then,it deals with the opportunity provided by the devel-opment of mathematical education for mathematicians to achieve economic independence andattain high social position.The development of mathematical education played a vital role notonly in the specialization of the study of mathematicians and the continued development ofmathematics,but also in the professionalizatio of Chinese mathematics.
