An Analysis of the "Mother Dragon" Myth of the Bai People

白族的龙母神话是白族龙神话传说的重要组成部分。白族以《九隆神话》为其族源神话,其中就有了始祖母崇拜的因素,是白族龙母神话的肇始。随着《九隆神话》的发展和流传,龙母神话在民间也发生了各种变异。从龙母神话的文本出发,试图解释白族龙母神话的流传和变异的过程,进而对龙母神话变异的原因进行探析。

The ＂mother dragon＂ myth is an important component of the Bai people＇s dragon mythology. The Bai people take Jiulong Mytho/ogy as what dictates their ethnic origin and the mythology itself contains the elements of Mother the Creator, which are the inchoation of ＂mother dragon＂ myth. With Jiulong Mythology developed and circulated, the ＂mother dragon＂ myth has taken on varied versions among the folks. Based on textual ＂mother dragon＂ myth, the paper clarifies the myth＇s circulation and variation process and accounts for such variations.
