委婉语的功能及应用

Functions and application of euphemism

委婉语在英、汉语言中广泛使用。它与禁忌语相关。委婉语一方面反映了人们对美好生活的良好祝愿,一方面体现了人们对那些难以直言的话题的禁忌。委婉话既可缓解人际关系,又可增加语义效果。但在使用中,应把握原则,注意场合与对象。

Euphemism is widely used both in Chinese and English, which has a close connection with taboo. On one hand, euphemism can express our good wishes towards Life; on the other hand, it is the best choice to avoid unpopular taboo. It can not only improve the interpersonal relationship between different people, but enforce semantic effects of communication, therefore, it is essential to choose right euphemism at right occasions and among right people.
